ATCHISON, Kan. ? Unstable concrete, steel and other debris left after a powerful explosion ripped through a Kansas grain elevator are complicating efforts to find three people who officials say were likely killed in the blast.
Crews are hoping to stabilize the debris and resume their search Monday inside the Bartlett Grain Co. facility in Atchison, about 50 miles northwest of Kansas City.
The bodies of three other workers were recovered after the Saturday explosion, and two people are hospitalized with severe burns.
The search for another Bartlett employee and two grain workers was temporarily halted Sunday because of safety concerns inside the badly damaged elevator. Bartlett officials say the three are presumed dead and search crews have a good idea where they were at the time of the explosion.
